The programme consists of both courses and thesis work. The research thesis can be written in the wide range of subjects, represented in the different research areas represented in the Division. After completion, the student receives the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Lund University.

PhD students work in close collaboration with their supervisors and colleagues, in smaller research groups. These groups often participate in larger international collaborations, both theoretical and experimental. Travel to summer schools, conferences or laboratories around the world, are part of the education.

Admission

The Division only accepts PhD students with full financing for the whole four-year period. Positions are usually financed either by the Division, or by an external grant. Once admitted, the PhD student receives a monthly salary within a regular employment in Sweden, including social benefits, sufficient to cover living expenses in Lund.
